First-time OEM buyers often ask the same questions when evaluating a bench vise factory: What is the minimum order quantity? How long does a sample take? When will my production be ready? This guide gives you the straight answers based on how Stavalk actually plans orders — no negotiable fantasy numbers, just the schedule you can build your own planning around.
MOQ by product category
Our minimum order quantities are set to balance efficient production runs with the reality that not every buyer needs a container load. The numbers differ by product class:
- Standard bench vises (4"–6" jaw width): MOQ of 50 pieces per model.
- Medium-duty and 8" models: MOQ of 100–200 pieces.
- Heavy-duty, forged steel, and specialty vises (pipe and tripod vises, oversized models): MOQ of 20–50 pieces.
The material and process cost differences explain the split. Cast iron standard bodies are high-volume items where 50-piece runs are already economical. Forged steel and complex castings involve more setup and longer heat treatment cycles, so batches are of necessity smaller — that is protection for us, but it also keeps your risk lower on a premium line.
Sample timing: 7–14 days
Before you commit to production, you should hold your product in your hand. We produce samples within 7 days for standard configurations and up to 14 days when the sample involves a new pattern, custom logo, or special paint finish. Samples for standard bodies ship with a very competitive factory price; for fully custom products, the sample is quoted together with pattern or tooling costs.
Production lead time: 25–35 days
Once an order is confirmed, production runs 25–35 days depending on the model mix and the quantity. Standard cast iron models that repeat from previous orders are typically at the shorter end of the range. Mixed orders combining several models, or first-time orders that require scheduling around pattern availability, tend toward the longer end. We publish a booking calendar for each quarter so confirmed slots are visible to buyers well in advance.
What moves the schedule
Three factors move these numbers up or down. First, pattern availability — if your product uses an existing pattern and paint code, the schedule is at its shortest. Second, seasonality: volume grows in the second and third quarters as distributors prepare for autumn retail, so slots fill earlier. Third, inspection complexity: if you require third-party pre-shipment inspection, we can usually keep the same schedule, but we need your inspector confirmed early.
Planning several orders ahead
The buyers who get the smoothest delivery are the ones who think two orders ahead. Locking your first production order while samples are still in transit keeps the calendar slot reserved, which is why we recommend confirming a provisional slot as soon as the sample is approved. For brands running multiple SKUs, we group production into a single run and ship as one consolidated order — that protects your minimums without multiplying freight costs.
Popular two-in-one boxes
Where we can combine small quantities of related models in a single 20-foot container — for example a 5" and a 6" cast iron line, or a bench vise plus a matching pipe jaw attachment — you reduce both your MOQ risk and your per-piece freight. Ask our sales team to quote a mixed-container plan for the exact models in your catalog.
